The State of Hip-Hop

For all those who listen to this genre of music you will soon understand my plight against some of its current members. I am speaking with biasness when I say the hip-hop is the most diverse genre of music ever conceived. It speaks volumes to the a wide array of backgrounds but mostly to the urban youth such as myself. I grew up since the beginning when I believe the music was pure;untouched by the malicious hands of greedy A&Rs and money-hungry baffoons who sought to descrete its purity. Back in the early 80s there was kats like KRS-1,Ladys Love Cool James(LLCoolJ-for those who dont know), SugarHill Gang to name a few. It wasnt about the money, fame or necessarily exploiting women in their rhymes. It was about the music; it was a voice to the voiceless-the urbanites who usually got overlooked. Music to a lot of people in the ghetto (the hood) is a conduit out it even if not physically. Hip-Hop was alive and well in the 80s and early 90s. Even with large success from RUN-DMC it was never it the state as it is now.

Today you have every blatant disregard(and disrespect) to the music by putting out garbage. I feel old saying that it is the younger generation spitting on the foundation that the music was built. I blame this mostly on capitalism which runs the world;money makes the world go 'round. It is supply and demand simply put. An artist puts out something that's "hot in the streets" and people (which we shall aptly call zombies) flock to buy the albums not really caring for content but usually b/c you "lean with rock wit it". As you can tell I am very adamant about this subject because music is very influential and for those who have kids you can understand that you dont want there mind polluted with junk on the airwaves.

Also I am a purist of sorts, I think that whatever you talk about make it clever, flow with it. I know that some artist talk about drugs and violence but that may be the reflection that they see everyday I can respect that but if you are too one-dimensional then you lack skills to grasp the mic. Hip-hop covers a spectrum of individuals from grimy dudes to your local skate or die kid and that is what I like about it. What I dont care for are the brainless senseless rhymes most are conveying now. I mean damn I am thinking of writing rhymes as a hobby and maybe make a few songs just because I want to compensate for the lame brain rap game that's all the same. See...i got skills lol. "if i dont like it I dont like it..dont mean I'm hatin."-COMMON
